Photonic Crystal Cavities

The Electron Beam Lithography facility can fabricate photonic crystal nanocavities and similar nano-arrays for you. These 2D structures have a periodic array of ‘holes’ which is interrupted by a carefully designed ¬†physical defect – usually created by missing out some holes. This defect acts as a cavity in which light can be very efficiently trapped.
